The Secondary School “Voievod Litovoi” is placed in the west part of Targu-Jiu city, in the area known as “Over the Bridge”, on the present Severinului road, no.86.
Being the only school in this area, it gathers all children that live over the bridge of river Jiu, namely Panduri, Meteor, Călăraşi, Luncilor, Făgăraş, Bucegi, Şuşiţa, Motrului, Calea Severinului and Slobozia.
The history of education in this part of Tg-Jiu municipality is not old. Until the construction of the current school premises, in 1961, when it was passed to the secondary education, two primary schools have been operating here since 1950.
One was called No. 5 and it worked in the house of Maria Lătăreţu, and from 1957 in the house of Iosif Popescu, until 1961. It was only for gipsy students.
The new location of school improved the frequency of the 21 classes that existed.
Secondary School “Voievod Litovoi” wants to realize an educational approach circumscribed to the development of valuable, creative-pragmatic, moral-civic, European personalities, with communication and intellectual skills, to develop various partnerships enriching thus the quality of education, to cooperate with prestigious institutions at national and international level, to promote positive policies in relation with community.
